Sub Domains are web site names that are not regestered at a Domain Regestration Service. These sites have to be linked with a regestered domain. This can happen in 2 different ways:
1) The sub domain my be nested within an ftp folder of a regestered domain and will have an address like www.RegesteredDomainName.com/SubDomainName
2) You may rent a Sub Domain Hosting Package and have your own ftp folder Your address will be www.spiritearth.net/YourSubDomainName

ftp folder: An ftp folder is a folder sitting on a www server computer and contains all the files and folders that comprise you web site. Note: The Home Page of (or gateway page to) any web site must be named "index.html" or "index.htm" without the quotes and no caps.

Your hosting needs are determined by two different aspects.
*Disk Space - The amount of space on the hard drive need to store your site. Generally this is quit small. For example an 8 page site with 4 to 6 images (ie: jpeg photos) per page may occupy only 4 to 5 Megabytes of disk space. Assuming there are no extra ftp file transfers.
**Bandwidth - Measures the traffic to and from your site per month. For example given this same 5 Meg site: a personal site with an average monthly visitor rate say of 4 visits per day and 10 page requests per day may use 10 to 15 Megs of Bandwidth per month. A moderately busy business site with an average of 22 visitors per day and an average of 55 page requests from those visitors may use 200 Megs of Bandwidth per month. Busier sites or sites that move large files through the ftp site will of course use much more Disk Space and Bandwidth.

When Disk Space or Bandwidth is exceeded you can buy more of either or both or upgrade your Plan, which ever fills your needs best.

How Do I Learn About Visitors To My Site? There are many sites that will count visits to your site. Some will record the city and state or country where the query originated, time spent at the site, pages visited etc. We use statcounter.com. See the counter at the bottom of the page. You don't have to use their logo nor have the counter visible on your page.
